The Edinburgh Reporter chats with Horse October 2016

Horse McDonald is a Scottish singer with a fabulous voice and a massive back catalogue. She is appearing with her band at The Queen's Hall on 4 November 2016 and we talked to her to find out what she has been up to this year. She talks about her play which she performed at Edinburgh Festival Fringe, appearing at Club Cumming and the upcoming show.

As part of the Council’s Transformation programme, and 'following extensive consultation with staff and feedback from visitors and users', the museums service has implemented a change to opening hours. The new opening hours went live on 1st October 2016. All venues owned by the council will close on Tuesdays – the Museum of Childhood and City Art Centre, the highest profile venues, will close on different days, as will the Peoples’ Story and Museum of Edinburgh. The Scott and Nelson Monuments will operate as existing.

Interview with Thomas Strønen

Thomas Strønen is a Norwegian percussionist and composer. He is bringing his special blend of improvisation and jazz to The Queen's Hall on 2 November 2016. 

We spoke to him over Skype, and it appears that Norway must have very good broadband coverage. Only at the end of the call did we realise he was in a car! 

Speaking with the winner of the Cultural Icon of the Year Award

Mark Vice is only 23 but he is busy painting his own future in a garage in the east end of the city. 

The visual artist won Cultural Icon of the Year at the Scottish Icon Awards and we spoke to him about it.

Steve Howe of Yes and Asia fame appeared at The Queen's Hall, Edinburgh in October 2016. He is better known for being part of a big group line-up and we asked him how the solo tour with Homebrew had come about. 

The Edinburgh Reporter podcast - interview with Cllr Paul Godzik

The new Boroughmuir High School is being built on the side of the canal on Fountainbridge. The project has now been revised and a new opening date was announced earlier this week. 

Instead of the school being ready for opening now in October 2016 or in Spring 2017 the pupils will move in after the summer holidays in 2017. WE spoke to Councillor Godzik who is Education Convener to find out what has gone wrong. 

The Edinburgh Reporter talks to Granton Improvement Society

The Granton Improvement Society want to do exactly what they say. They would like to buy some council owned land in the north of the city and use it to improve the area and create jobs. 

The Edinburgh Reporter met Ross McEwan and Sharon from the Society on the waterfront just opposite the walled garden. 

They have invested a lot of time on the project and hope that it may be about to come to fruition.
